Meet the Owner of Hofmann Construction

Hi, I’m Paul Hofmann. I’m a Red Seal Certified Carpenter and the owner of Hofmann Construction, based in Victoria, BC.

‍My love for building started when I was a kid. I was always drawn to working with wood, curious about the different types of trees, the grain, the smell, the feel. There’s something incredibly satisfying about creating something with your hands and being able to step back at the end of the day and say, “I built that.”

Before my dad passed away, he encouraged me to pursue carpentry, and helped me get started with one of Victoria’s top custom home builders. I completed my apprenticeship there, earned my Red Seal certification, and over the years, my trade has taken me across the world, from Germany to Australia to New Zealand.

Seeing how people build in different parts of the world shaped how I approach construction. It taught me that we can build smarter, more efficiently, and in ways that are better for the environment, especially here in Canada.

In 2007, I returned to Victoria and founded Paul Hofmann Construction. Since then, I’ve worked on everything from home renovations, additions, and outdoor structures, to custom homes and energy-efficient renovations. But over the years, I’ve become especially passionate about passive house renovations and deep energy retrofits.

‍I love the challenge and creativity involved in making homes more energy-efficient and sustainable, while still focusing on craftsmanship that stands the test of time. For me, those projects are the most rewarding.

I’m hands-on with every project. I don’t just show up for the first meeting and disappear. I stay involved from start to finish. I believe clear communication is everything, and I make sure my clients feel informed and supported every step of the way.

Whether it’s a kitchen renovation, bathroom upgrade, home addition, general renovation, or an energy-efficient upgrade or retrofit, my goal is always the same: to help people create spaces that feel like home, comfortable, efficient, and built to last.

Clients often describe me as reliable, collaborative, and easy to work with. I take pride in having a friendly, professional crew made up of journeyman carpenters and certified apprentices, and I’ve built a strong network of trusted tradespeople who share my commitment to quality and integrity.

At the end of the day, I truly believe that what you put out into the world comes back to you. If you treat people with respect, work with honesty, and put care into everything you build—good things tend to follow.
